Types of Cards

Knowledge Card

Knowledge cards are drawn when a player lands on a city and opts to acquire one. These cards offer unique abilities and carry point values indicated by corner numbers. If a player draws a card they already possess, they move ahead one space instantly, relegating the redundant card to the bottom of the draw pile. If they draw a charlatan card, players must discard a card from their hand and place it at the bottom of the knowledge card pile.

Pick A Card

If they draw “Pick a card,” the next player (helper) selects a card from the pile, reviews it silently, and then starts the timer. The helper clarifies the word to the player without stating the actual word. The player guesses until they give the correct answer and then both players move forward as indicated by the card. Failure to guess in time results in both players moving back according to the card’s value.

Quiz Card

As you navigate through your “Route to Mecca” you will randomly encounter Quiz cards, which add an educational and thrilling dimension to the game, rewarding players with valuable resources for correct answers.

Each Quiz Card presents a question with multiple replies – will you choose wisely?

Zakat Round

A zakat round occurs when a player lands on a danger space and does not have the necessary gold or knowledge cards to cover the cost. The player in this situation becomes the “receiver” of the zakat round. The zakat round begins with the player to the right of the receiver. If they possess more than five gold, they must contribute one or more gold as long as they have at least five gold. If they have five or fewer gold, they are unable to pay and the obligation passes to the next player.

After payment, verify if the receiver can afford the danger cost. If not, the process continues clockwise with the next player contributing to the receiver. This cycle continues until it returns to the receiver. If the receiver still cannot meet the cost, they must move back the required number of spaces, while retaining the gold received.
